Tyrol, Austria

Back to the Alps again but this time in Austria. A motley crew of 14 of us drove down over the last long weekend of May for some fresh mountain air.

a five hour drive and we arrived at our lovely little chalet and can you guess what the first thing Brits do when they’re abroad?… BBQ. A heavy night of red meat and alcohol ensued, interspersed with ping pong matches and stargazing.

Day 1: One of the main reasons we came to this spot was because of Area 47 which is a water park. We spent the whole day here and were incredibly lucky with the weather when thunderstorms were predicted, we were given 25-30 degree heat! In the afternoon we went rafting- lots of drama  when in trying to save a baby bird who was injured in the water, we lost one of our men to a low hanging branch and had to paddle quite hard to get him back in- picture below is the reaction (uncontrollable laughter) at this event.

Day 2: We took an early hike up a hill to see the tallest waterfall in the area. A hard journey but totally worth! the views were amazing and the mist off the crashing water was very refreshing.

Later we went to what was supposedly the ‘hottest’ lake in Austria. FYI not hot, but, being mostly hardy Brits we dived in with onlooking Austrians giving us odd looks and had an absolute blast!

Day 3: On our way back to Nuremeberg we stopped for lunch in Innsbruck, a lovely city which I would be very keen to visit again with more time.

Tyrol: a great place to visit for nature-lovers and active people, take me back!

Ciao for now,

Marlo
